40-Metre Twin-Tier Conveyor Bridge and Lift Transfer System
Connecting separate buildings can demand much more than an extended conveyor. For a client in North West England, CCL delivered a fully enclosed twin-tier conveyor bridge and lift transfer system across approximately 40 metres of uneven, sloping ground.
The project brought together the supporting structure, conveyors, lift transfers and a complete control system. CCL’s team also carried out the mechanical installation.

The challenge: keeping structure and material flow aligned
The route needed to connect two buildings while accommodating changes in ground level. The engineering work focused on how the bridge structure shared its loads and how structural movement and loading could affect the alignment of the conveyors and lifts.
Particular attention was given to the transfer points. The supporting structure, conveyor equipment and lift interfaces had to work together within the required transfer tolerances to support reliable material movement along the enclosed route.

A twin-tier conveyor bridge with lift transfers
The solution combined two conveyor tiers within an externally enclosed bridge, with lift transfers connecting the material-handling route. Full engineering calculations were carried out to address structural loading, load sharing and the relationship between the bridge and the conveying equipment.
Rather than treating the structure and conveyors as separate elements, the project considered their interfaces together: where loads were supported, where movement could influence alignment and where materials transferred between sections.

Controls and mechanical installation by CCL
CCL carried out the full control system and mechanical installation, bringing the bridge conveyors and lift transfers together as an integrated handling system.

Project questions and answers
Can a conveyor bridge connect buildings across uneven ground?
For this North West UK project, CCL designed a fully enclosed twin-tier conveyor bridge and lift transfer system linking buildings approximately 40 metres apart across uneven or sloping ground. Each installation needs its own structural and transfer-interface calculations.
What engineering checks were needed?
The engineering work examined structural load sharing, movement under loading, conveyor and lift alignment, and transfer tolerances where the supporting structure, conveyors and lifts meet.
Did CCL provide the controls and installation?
Yes. The CCL team carried out the full control system and mechanical installation for this project.
