1,500 kg Pallet Conveyor Bridge for Morningside, Loughborough

2 min read

CCL delivered a fully enclosed heavy-duty pallet conveyor bridge for Morningside in Loughborough, connecting two buildings across a grassed walkway area. The powered roller conveyor system handles loads of 1,500 kg.

The bridge spans approximately 10 metres without intermediate external support stands beneath the crossing. This made the relationship between the supporting structure and the loaded conveyor a central part of the engineering work.

The challenge: heavy pallet loads across a clear span

The system had to transfer heavy loads between buildings while maintaining conveyor alignment across the enclosed route. With no external support stands along the span, structural load sharing and the effect of loading on the conveyor interfaces required careful investigation.

The engineering work considered how structural movement, loading and transfer tolerances could influence reliable material transfer. Full engineering calculations were carried out for the supporting structure and its interfaces with the conveyor system.

The resulting installation combines an enclosed conveyor bridge with heavy-duty powered rollers for 1,500 kg loads. The approximately 10-metre span connects the buildings while leaving the area beneath free of intermediate external support stands.

The design work addressed the bridge and conveying equipment together, with particular attention to the alignment and transfer interfaces needed to move loads between the buildings.

Project questions and answers

What pallet load was this conveyor bridge designed to handle?

The Morningside project in Loughborough used a fully enclosed heavy-duty powered roller conveyor bridge designed to carry 1,500 kg pallet loads.

How did the bridge cross the walkway without intermediate supports?

The bridge spanned approximately 10 metres between the buildings over a grassed walkway, without intermediate external support stands. Full calculations were carried out for the supporting structure, load sharing, conveyor alignment and transfer interfaces.

Did CCL supply the controls and mechanical installation?

Yes. The CCL team carried out the full control system and mechanical installation for this project.
