The Client

AB-InBev Magor Brewery, a major brewing facility in South Wales, required a comprehensive upgrade to its keg-handling infrastructure.

The Challenge

The brewery needed to replace an ageing keg handling system whilst maintaining operational efficiency. The solution required seamless integration with existing wash and filling units, the capability to handle various keg sizes, and precise control over the flow of kegs from the processing plant through to the filling area. The system needed to accommodate 16 separate filling lanes and provide flexible handling across multiple zones.

The Solution

CCL designed and implemented a comprehensive keg handling system with the following specifications:

Main Accumulation System

Split into two separate conveyors to maximise control of the process line
Travel path of 180 degrees from processing plant to filling area
Integration of a new keg turning unit to redirect kegs into the filling conveyor line

Filling Line Configuration

Automatic feeding system distributing kegs across 16 lanes
Direct feed into existing wash and filling units
Pneumatically operated adjustable rail system to accommodate kegs of varying sizes

Flow Control Features

Three pneumatically operated stops per zone for precise flow management
Bespoke pneumatic pulling latch system for automatic transfer of kegs into existing filling lines
Zone-based control allowing independent management of different sections

The Results

The implemented system successfully replaced the old keg handling infrastructure whilst delivering enhanced operational capabilities:
